Emirates will deploy Airbus A350-900 aircraft on its daily Dubai-Durban service from 1 March 2027, replacing the existing equipment and introducing Premium Economy to the route for the first time. The deployment extends the carrier's Premium Economy offering across all three of its South African gateways. The daily service operates as EK flights linking King Shaka International Airport in Durban with Dubai International Airport, providing onward connections to destinations across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

A350 Configuration and Cabin Layout#

The Airbus A350-900 operates in a three-class configuration with 298 seats, comprising 32 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy Class seats. Business Class features a 1-2-1 seating arrangement with direct aisle access, fully flat seats, 20-inch 4K entertainment screens, wireless charging and personal mini-bars. Premium Economy offers a 2-3-2 layout with 19.5-inch-wide seats, adjustable headrests, footrests and 13.3-inch entertainment screens. Economy Class passengers receive adjustable leather headrests, personal entertainment screens and device-charging facilities. The aircraft represents a newer generation of passenger aviation with updated onboard systems.

Premium Economy Expansion Across South African Network#

The Durban deployment completes Emirates' Premium Economy rollout across its South African gateway cities. The cabin class, positioned between Economy and Business, provides passengers with increased seat width, enhanced recline and additional amenities for long-haul travel. The introduction on the Durban route follows similar deployments on Emirates services to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Passengers departing from KwaZulu-Natal will access the Premium Economy product on the daily service from 1 March 2027. The cabin targets leisure travellers, business passengers and families seeking greater comfort on international flights.

Dubai Connectivity and Onward Destinations#

Passengers travelling from Durban through Dubai can connect to more than 70 destinations across Emirates' network. Key markets accessible via the Dubai hub include Thailand, Indonesia, India, France and the United Kingdom. The daily Durban service provides a single daily frequency linking South Africa's eastern coastal region with the Middle East hub. Through Dubai, travellers access connections to Asian tourism destinations, European business centres and Indian Ocean routes. The A350 deployment maintains the daily service pattern while upgrading the aircraft type and cabin offering. Emirates operates the route under its existing traffic rights between South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

Mauritius Route Also Receives A350 Equipment#

Emirates began operating the Airbus A350-900 on its Dubai-Mauritius route from 1 November 2026, introducing the same three-class configuration to the island destination. The aircraft replaced Boeing 777 equipment previously assigned to the daily EK709 and EK710 services. The deployment brought Emirates' latest Business Class product and Premium Economy offering to Mauritius, one of three daily services the carrier operates to the island. The other two Mauritius flights, EK703/704 and EK701/702, continue operating with Airbus A380 aircraft. Together, the three daily services provide 21 weekly flights between Dubai and Mauritius, with connections to more than 70 destinations across Europe, Asia and the Americas. Statistics Mauritius reported 668,471 tourist arrivals in the first six months of 2026, representing 1.5 percent growth compared with the same period in 2025.
